Colombia: 13 years since the assassination of Jaime Garzon

Jaime Garzón , a lawyer, journalist, humorist, educator, pacifist, political scientist, sociologist, activist, and critic Colombian won the hearts of his countrymen through various programs on television and radio, where he expressed prolifically, with vision and prediction, the daily events of the country. Garzón was murdered on August 13, 1999, allegedly by paramilitary and military leaders, including a former director of the Administrative Department of Security (DAS ). The Colombians remembered in every anniversary of his assassination.

More recently, with the increasing use of citizen media, each year his name is again local trend on Twitter and blogs are reactivated to mourn the impunity of his assassination, as does Pastusita in his post "Same as above" .

Social Lab Blog criticizes Colombians are "accustomed" to death and reflects on the passivity and impunity in Garzón's death:

Days pass, years and only have to repeatedly in the newspapers that a year has passed over impunity and still not unmask the true perpetrators of major assassinations in our country.

In his blog Thinking without side effects, Cristina Rosa pays homage to Garzón and remember more of their contributions, among which is an effort towards a better awareness of country:

Jaime did their best and all the forms that had at its disposal, for wake, for puyarnos for us to move for encouraging us to be aware to be actors of our present and future.

The author of the blog Project D, calling itself the "Desert Fox", calls for building a better country following the legacy of Garzón:

Garzón believe in life, believe in the institutions, in the Constitution of 91, nevertheless believed in a new Colombia, believed that this could be improved. The best tribute that can be done today to James, to all those anonymous victims, is to enable the country better, because doing this tribute, that character was actually Garzón Patria also are building, democracy, or whatever you call those things, "have a country, minimally more enjoyable."

Olga Lucía Lozano in the empty chair Garzón honors presenting the "Garzonpedia" with thirteen of his famous phrases. Lozano concludes with a quote from Garzón Catalina Arbelaez also shares in his blog :

"In this country, the State exists or not. One there to collect taxes, VAT recovery, but for me there is no social security, employment, social security, health insurance, nothing. That there is no state. "

Others have reminded Garzón republishing publications that make traditional media, or sharing videos of YouTube .

His memory and his legacy live on in the hearts of Colombians who persist in remembering and for justice on the perpetrators of his murder.
