This post is part of our special coverage of the 2012 London Olympics . For the first time in Olympic history of the country, Mexico won a gold medal in men's soccer . On August 11, 2012, the country held when the Olympic team beat Brazil 2-1 . Crowds throughout Mexico waved flags and danced in squares on the streets, thousands of fans gathered in a massive celebration in the iconic Angel of Independence in Mexico City. On Twitter, the discussion became very intense, and even humorous. Some of the major labels during and after the game were # VamosMexico , # MéxicoDeOro , # SomosOro and # MexicoCampeón . Marithé Ayala Ortiz, ( @ werismao ) highlighted how early people got up on a Saturday morning to watch the game, 9 am at the center of Mexico:
