Mexico: Death of singer Chavela Vargas

Singer Chavela Vargas , born in Costa Rica but a Mexican national, died Sunday afternoon August 5 to 93 years after a respiratory arrest.

Known for songs like "La Llorona "Chavela Vargas became famous for his portrayal of music ranchera and for pioneering within the female performers of the genre.

OtraAmérica describes his relationship with Mexico despite not being his native country:
