The northern Mauritanian cities Zouerate and Nouadhibou are going through protests by workers who are not registered. More than 2,300 workers are protesting the mining town of Zouerate, in northern Mauritania, which has led to a complete standstill in ten sites of the National Mining and Industrial Company ( SNIM [fr]), in addition to discontinue work in elsewhere. The workers are demanding benefit increases granted Pay SNIM recientelemente for their workers also call social security and the right of labor to be given priority Mauritanian citizens, compared with foreign-entry workers from neighboring countries. New type of slavery These workers, known as workers' journalia "in local dialect, also call direct contract with SNIM instead of contracts with third parties, they only pay 40 percent of the wages of each worker SNIM, which they consider traffic people and a new kind of slavery. The protesters also threatened to hold a rally of Zouerate to Nouakchott, like the activists who organized Nouadhibou few months ago. In Nouadhibou, workers' journalia "are also making a protest against what they call human trafficking, nearly one thousand workers are amenanzado to stop work and participate in a strike open. The blog Mauritannet [ar] wrote about these protests and you can read about events in Zouerate in the Facebook page of the motion on February 25 [ar]: The city of Zouerate has been living at the rhythm of the protesting workers, which has entered its second week. The people of Zouerate have shown their solidarity with the strikers and have shown that providing assistance to continue their protest. Artists and poets of the city are acting every night to encourage them to continue the fight for their rights. Zouerate Now, more than 2,300 workers are protesting against what they call human trafficking and are appealing to end its contract with the intermediary companies. The blogger Mauritanian Shaykh Alddedd Wald [ar] also wrote about it: The problem lies in the fact that companies pay their legal workers four times the wages paid to "journalia" and also increased their earnings, while it has ignored calls journalia workers, which according to the union is a dangerous precedent that could lead to increased and explosion of the situation in the company. Ahmed Haymoudane [ar] denounces the lack of any attempt to resolve the crisis by the company involved: No sign of solutions so far and that is due to: - SNIM's insistence to continue exploiting Mauritanian workers in a way that reminds the exploitation of African workers in sugar cane fields in Africa in the past. - The insistence of the workers continue their strike and not subject to the pressures that the company has been applied by threatening to replace them with foreign workers. - The insistence of the authorities to silence anyone who raise your voice calling their rights in the country for the spread of revolution does not spread and things do not get out of control. Alddedd Wald Al Sheikh also tweets: @ Dedda04 : @ Dedda04 : The rights revolution and signs of rebellion prevailing in Mauritania are starting to reach workers journalia.
