Infant Colic represent a condition in which a baby cries or screams healthy and often for prolonged periods without any apparent reason.

image

The condition usually occurs in the first three weeks after birth and usually disappears, often very early (before the third or fourth month).

This annoying condition for the infant, and your parent is usually more common in those bottle fed, but also occurs in breast-feeding, expressing a cry that often occurs during a specific period of the day, often in the afternoon .

Since the case was not to conclusively established and the duration of crying differs between babies, there is no general consensus on the definition of "colic", but after excluding other possible causes of crying, they usually attributed the discomfort to a "colic" as a parameter that tears may extend over a period of three days a week for over three hours and for more than three weeks in a month.

Regarding the cause, there is no commonly accepted explanation for colic, but traditionally ascribed to the conditions more characteristic of abdominal pain, manifested as a result of gases.

Since this is the most accepted theory and not yet discredited, as some recent scientific evidence offered their support, as possible causes that are related to changes in intestinal flora and multiple studies have shown that babies with colic condition of flora, is caused by lack of Lactobacillus acidophilus, advising the consumption of probiotics to improve the condition.

Great demand for labor coaches (Doulas)

The number of "birth coaches" used by pregnant women has almost quadrupled in the last five years, according to latest statistics.

image

The labor coach, also called "Doula" which means slave, in Greek, serves as a companion for new mothers, who will be at your side to help them navigate the stressful experience representing labor.

Demand has grown, along with the fashion for natural births, since in 2004 some 700 women recruited Doula services, but last year the number had increased to 2,500.

Similarly, the number of monitors in the network Doula UK, which represents many of those who offer their services to women has increased from 28 in 2003 to over 450 today.

The chronic shortage of midwives, women's anxiety and desire for the birth to be as natural as possible, helps explain the trend.

The Doulas, who have no medical training, they merely give advice, support and encouragement to women, taking the place of his predecessors as biological mother, aunt, sister or grandmother, who normally occupy that role.

But they also help the mother to stay calm and relaxed, as far as possible, through advice on breathing, performing massage and listening as she shares her fears, thoughts and feelings.

The Department of Health has given £ 270,000 to help establish voluntary Doula services throughout England.

The children who eat candy and chocolate every day are more likely to be violent adults, according to UK researchers.

image

The study by Cardiff University with the participation of 17,500 people is the first to establish the relationship between the effects of diet on children, on violence in adulthood.

The evaluation found that children of 10 years who consumed sweets daily, were significantly more likely to have a conviction for violence at age 34.

The researchers analyzed data on approximately 17,500 persons and found that 69% of participants who were violent at age 34 years had consumed candy and chocolate almost every day during childhood, compared with 42% that was not violent .

This link between the consumption of confectionery and aggression later in life, remained even after controlling for other factors, the behavior of parents, the area where he lived, no studies have titles after the age of 16 years.

Researchers presented several explanations to determine the relationship or link, on the theory of the consumption of sweets and the direct relationship that leads to adults to aggression.

Dr. Simon Moore, who led the study, has conducted previous research on young offenders and was aware that tend to have very poor diets, but included many sweets, something that intrigued him and decided to find the link.

So give the children candy and chocolate regularly may push towards a more impulsive behavior, which is strongly associated with crime in the future.

Therefore direct resources to improve the nutrition of children can also improve health, reduce aggression later in life.

The study was published in the British Journal of Psychiatry.
