Shareef Abdur-Rahim retires from football at the age of 31 years, after 12 professional. The player hitherto Sacramento Kings could not overcome his knee injury and after 18 months decided to hang up his boots standing.

"I can not return to the level required to play in the NBA, my right knee has become artítrica over time and it is because they can not make moves and play to the level it used to. It's true, "said a resigned Abdur Rahim, who was the first franchise player Grizzlies, back when they played in Vancouver.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim may nevertheless be linked to the discipline of the Sacramento Kings as coach of tall men, and who better than a player who has averaged more than 19.9 points in seven seasons played in the NBA, which has been AllStar and has taken more than 8.4 rebounds in five seasons.

The announcement also means, in a sense, a relief cargo for the Sacramento Kings, who could dispose of Shareef Abdur-Rahim's salary for the 2009-2010 season, in order to restructure the workforce, although it might be too late to have next season, because for that to happen Shareef Abdur-Rahim should have announced his retirement in the 2007-2008 season.
