If we must choose a name that comes to mind us when we talk about basketball, this is undoubtedly that of Michael Jordan, Air Jordan as he used to call due to his two victories in the AllStar Slam Dunk tournament (in 1987 and 1988 ). Michael Jordan, as can be read on NBA.com, is "by acclamation, the best basketball player in history".

Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in New York on 17 February 1963, debuting in the NBA in 1984 at the age of 21, having played at the University of North Carolina. His team would include other greats like James Worthy, who now rests in the Hall of Fame. In 1982, his team, the Tar Heels won the NCAA final thanks to his basket at the buzzer against a team which contained Patrick Ewing, who became one of his rivals in NBA history and share with the scenario in the movie Space Jam.

Before coming to the NBA, Michael Jordan won the gold medal at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984, when he was a university (at that time was not sent professional players), beating Spain in the final, that final much-talked this summer when the two countries clashed again.

In the NBA, was undrafted in third place, after Hakeem Olajuwon and Sam Bowie. He believes the election of Sam Bowie by Portland Trail Blazers the biggest mistake in the history of the NBA (if, hopefully not, similar to Greg Oden). Sam Bowie was a good player but never had luck with injuries, while Michael Jordan won in the Chicago Bulls.

The first season of Michael Jordan and vaticinaría what ultimately would be for the history of basketball. 28.2 points per game and field goal percentage from 51.5 to play earned him the AllStar Game as a starter by popular vote and was named rookie of the year. The following year, Jordan would pass blank because of an injured foot, although the Bulls were able to qualify for the playoffs and could return there to drop Jordan removed before Larry Bird Boston Celtics 3-0. However, Jordan made his name by scoring 63 points, maximum historical annotation in a playoff game. Larry Bird then made his famous statement:

"I've seen God disguised as a basketball player."

Michael Jordan got the following season 37.1 points per game, something only to the legendary Wilt Chamberlain (the author of 100 points in a game). jordan91_200_greatestfinals

But Michael Jordan still had to wait for his first championship, he would get six (6 Bulls have won in their history). It was in the 1990-91 season, when Jordan, escorted by his squire luxury, Scottie Pippen, would lead the Bulls, becoming the MVP to get a Finals where they expect the Lakers of Magic Johnson. Michael Jordan win the MVP of the Finals and the Bulls their first ring. Michael Jordan hugging the trophy was crying.

The following season, the mark of the Bulls reached 67 wins for just 15 losses, which would be a franchise record. Michael Jordan won the MVP again this season and the Bulls reached the Finals against Portland Trail Blazer s, who would also gain, thus achieving Air Jordan his second championship, which repeated the following year against the Phoenix Suns for Charles Barkley.

However, Michael Jordan retired from basketball in 1993, saying it no longer enjoyed it on a basketball court. The death of his father, killed also influenced the decision. There is speculation that Michael Jordan would have removed it before the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where the U.S., that first brought professional players to Olympics, caught on the best team in basketball history.

Michael Jordan was then converted to another sport: baseball. As was obvious, was not for him, and soon left the discipline ... to return to playing basketball. He said "I'm back" and there she was, wearing a bib number 45 because his 23 was retired in his honor. The Bulls fell in the playoffs, but the successes were soon to return to Chicago.

In fact, in 1995-96, the Bulls signed the best mark in NBA history, a 72-10, in the year when Dennis Rodman came to the Chicago franchise. The victim in the Finals were Gary Payton and Seattle SuperSonics. His Majesty had returned. The following season was a 69-13 for the Bulls, and now in the Finals to win Karl Malone and John Stockton.

The 1998 season would be the second (and for many that should have been the final) the withdrawal of Michael Jordan. The Bulls reached the Finals, where they met with the Utah Jazz, Malone and Stockton. They suffered the worst defeat in the history of playoffs, 96-54, but pulled herself together and reached the sixth game in Salt Lake City, with a 3-2 in the box. There would be played the last two games.

But Michael Jordan, in the play that he framed as big it is, the play with which would have ended his career, stole the ball from Karl Malone and ran, the only, did the Jazz basket, dribbling to Bryon Russell, who slipped fell on the floor, rising, and achieving the victory that put the score at 87-86 in the absence of about ten seconds to the end of the game. John Stockton missed the last three and the Bulls won their sixth ring.

In 2001 Michael Jordan returned to the tracks as the Washington Wizards player, making a few player records over 40 years. His magic on the tracks were still noting, although I would not get much reach with the Wizards. Failed to reach the playoffs, but we could all enjoy a little more Jordan. The last month of the season was a tribute to his dismissal. Even Allen Iverson finished crying in the AllStar.

Michael Jordan scored 32,292 points in his career, behind only Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Karl Malone in the history of the NBA. It is now co-owns the Charlotte Bobcats franchise.
