Pau Gasol, splendid champion of the NBA with the Lakers, is a candidate to receive the Prince of Asturias Award of Sport 2009. Spanish Basketball Federation submitted its candidacy to the body, whose award will be delivered in September. Lack praises space for Pau, the Lakers spark plug. Gasol was one of the key pieces for the Championship, besides being one of the most comprehensive Spanish athletes of the moment. Other athletes from the mother country that have won the recently include Rafael Nadal (2007), the Spanish national basketball (2005), Fernando Alonso (2004), Manuel Estiarte (2001) and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario (1998). Pau Congratulations, I hope we see you lifting the trophy in a few months!
