Ana Gabriela Guevara

Sport and politics do not always get along. The elections in Mexico left a negative balance for athletes that ran for a seat in Congress. Among the list include sprinter Ana Guevara, striker Carlos Hermosillo, the diver Fernando Platas, or record holder Jorge Camacho. Of the athletes billboard, only taekwondoín Iridia Salazar (bronze medal in Athens 2004) managed to pinch a place.

Javier Solorzano, Mexican journalist, explains the phenomenon:

"Politics has become so complex (including athletes in applications) is to trivialize politics and is overvaluing the world of sports [...] The athletes are called by leaders of the parties, not by the rules. That is, they owe more to the leaders that people can come to represent. "

They really are very few athletes who are entitled to exercise any public function (go! If sometimes not the same career politicians are). Include known athletes is just a desperate party to rooks a few votes. Worse athletes who lend to the game. No doubt there are few well-meaning, but how to interpret questionable actions as the resignation of Carlos Hermosillo to the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) to seek a federal delegation? The blind ambition.

No way, no matter how good they are in their disciplines, politics is a game where there is no fair play. Athletes, do not tarnish their careers. As we say here in Mexico: Shoemaker, to your shoes
