The crisis could wait longer for the Apertura 2009. Julio Grondona, head of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced today that promotion tournaments will be stopped for economic reasons. On August 11 will decide whether it is feasible to start the First Division championship or suspension should continue. The problem is because the clubs have a combined debt in the range of $ 10 million, to be paid during these weeks.

Among the clubs that are owed large as River Plate, Independiente and San Lorenzo. Grondona is clinging to the television contracts to help clean up the finances, or failing, proposes the creation of an online betting system.

Not everyone is happy with the postponement. Boca Juniors, for example, has requested that the tournament begins in a timely manner. Another who has spoken out against is Raul Gamez, former president of Velez Sarsfield. Gámez Grondona blamed the current crisis. "Given the need for the clubs, the president of AFA provides a solution that is a business for him and not for football, "he says.

What do you think? Will we see the ball rolling on 14 August, or there will be delays in Argentina?
