The Argentine won today, by the second round of ATP 500 Washington, Lleyton Hewitt 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), and took the defeat to Australia at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the 2009 season. John Martin did well to beat one of the idols of his childhood and got into the tournament quarterfinals of the U.S., where it will face revealing former Roland Garros, Robin Soderling. The Tandil was champion of this tournament last year beating in the final Vicktor Troicki.

No sooner had begun the match Hewitt broke the Argentine's serve, break that allowed him to take the opening set 6-4. In the second set, the Australian returned to break back into the PRSP in the first game and everything seemed headed for another victory of native Australia. Tandil but has since recovered, broke twice in succession the Australian's serve and took the second set 6-3. In the third and final set, Del Potro broke again in the third game of the set, to go 2-1. In the sixth game, Hewitt had him against the ropes but Tandil tower withstood the blows of his opponent. In the ninth game Del Potro might have led the meeting because he had two match points to close the game but could not, so he had to win in the tiebreaker, where he quickly pulled out a clear advantage

Del Potro is now in the quarterfinals and demonstrates that today is one of the best players in the world that deserves to be where you are and who has the ability to become world number one. This will unseat nothing more less than Roger Federer, which today seems impossible.
