Messi, the best in Europe

At the glitzy ceremony of the UEFA, which took place today in Monaco (in which also bypassed the group stage of the new edition of the Champions), Lionel Messi was hailed as the best player (and front) of the 2008/2009 season in Europe. It is the first award received thanks to the great season that was the main actor of a Barcelona that won the Triple Crown.

The 16 coaches of the teams that reached the final round of the previous edition of the highest competence at European level were responsible for choosing it over Cristiano Ronaldo and Eto'o (in the category of best forward) and on Xavi and Iniesta in the category for best player of the year. The 08/09 season of the Argentine was sublime was the scorer of the team cule, scoring 38 goals in 51 games and was the centerpiece of Guardiola set to win the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

This new season started well for Messi. In his first official game scoring two goals against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup round in which the Barcelona became champions by a 5-1 overall. Tomorrow, Barcelona will face UEFA Cup winners, the Shakhtar Donetsk, in what will be the European Cup Winners Cup. Messi will seek a new trophy, one more to their windows that today are filled with titles and awards totally deserved.
