Calderon Aguirre

It is not the first time it happens, and surely not the last. It is sad to see how governments around the world use the passion and joy to wake up their national teams as a political screen. It seems that in Latin America, we specialize in the field. On Tuesday, the preamble of the World Cup qualifiers in Mexico was announced that the Treasury will introduce a new tax against poverty, under which products are taxed as canned food, canned juices, precooked food, among others.

It is curious that the 2010 economic package is announced the same day of the match between Mexico and Honduras. The front pages of national dailies are divided between politics and football, including new taxes and alignment of the Tricolor. The proposed reforms by President Felipe Calderón not minors. Besides the new charges, included the disappearance of three Secretaries of State (Tourism, Agrarian Reform and Civil Service), plus the budget cut of about 218 billion scheduled for 2009.

The government has seized the national team which pulled her brand to filter the ball. Wisely, the Calderon government uses the anger of makeup for 90 minutes as actions concerning the population. Thus, a measure that should be subject to public debate will be drowned by the cries of goal in the Azteca. Not his fault the selection, or the millions of fans who watch football in an outlet and a source of amusement. But it must be read critically and not to eat the screen. Because today Mexico will take another strong step toward South Africa, but with tax included.
