Selected striker Andy Furtado Costa Rica received a two-year suspension for failing a drug test. The author of 4 goals in the current qualifying in CONCACAF, will miss the remaining matches of this phase and virtual participation in the World Cup.

The Costa Rican Soccer Federation reported that the 28-year-old tested positive for a local championship match, defending the colors of Herediano, which acquired the club on loan from Marathon (Honduras). The striker was positive with Betamethasone, a corticosteroid that alleviates the pain resulting from the blows, but that is banned because it also has a stimulating effect which enhances performance.

Thus, Costa Rica has lost a key player in the face of recent World Cup qualifying matches. Today, the Ticos are fourth with 12 points in the final hexagonal, and are in the zone playoff against the fifth of the South American (Argentina), seeking a place in South Africa 2010.
