Pavon

The United States signed its rating yesterday in San Pedro Sula to beat 2 to 3 to the selection of Honduras. Honduras struck first with a goal on free kick from Julio Cesar de Leon (46). The Hondurans appeared to have the game in the bag, but a double by Conor Casey (54 ', 65') gave the cartwheel in the U.S. box. When the pressure fell on the premises, a shoe showed that Landon Donovan Noel Valladares measured wrong to put the noose around his neck (70 ').

Seven minutes later, Rambo de Leon shortened the distance after a move that should have been invalidated by misplaced. But then came disaster. Carlos Pavon squandered a chance to salvage the tie by missing a penalty in the 85th minute. But it was not their only blunder. Minutes later, in one of the last plays of the game, missed a shot full against the mark. Trick of fortune for the veteran striker, who had just celebrated his 36th birthday the day before the game.

Now Honduras and Costa Rica will fight to the death the last line pass left for South Africa. The catrachos occupy the fourth place with 13 points, while Costa Ricans have the ticket with 15. The last day, to be played on Wednesday, is a tight race. Honduras will pay a visit to a team from El Salvador who want to say goodbye to the tie with his face toward the sun, while Costa Rica goes to Yankee feud with the knife between his teeth. Is crucial to both escape the playoffs, because nobody wants to stop in Uruguay, Ecuador and Argentina. Pavon has one last game to redeem, or otherwise bear the cross of sending an entire country to the South American customs.
