Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball

Barcelona's Argentinian player Lionel Messi, today received the Ballon D'Or award from France Football magazine. It is the first time an Argentine player receives the prize before, Alfredo Di Stefano, Omar Sivori won it, but being nationalized Spanish and Italian respectively, at the time was to be a European requirement to access the trophy.

The final vote is between 96 journalists from around the world. Messi received 473 votes and took the larger difference in the history of the award with respect to the second, it was Cristiano Ronaldo with 233 votes. Xavi Hernandez reached 170 and complete the podium and Andres Iniesta (the real best player in the world, in my humble opinion) had 149 votes. Of the 4 first, three players from Barcelona. Impressive.

The award goes to Lionel after an extraordinary season, which Barca won everything that was put in front, thanks to the great game and made the remarkable level of his players more destabilizing. Surely in a few weeks, Argentine individual receives a new distinction, the FIFA World Player award created just to compete with the award granted by the French magazine.

After 22 years, Lionel Messi devastates in prizes and is difficult to predict how high can go. One thing is certain: the world will reach South Africa with all the distinctions in their backs, and with the obligation to prove that it is the best player in the world.
