American cinema has always had a penchant for comedy films nourished with a generous dose of this fluid slapstick proliferate both in the silent era. Jerry Lewis, Peter Sellers and Jim Carrey are among the comedians who have exploited this aspect as visual humor in most of the time (but not all), no minimum dramatic depth. Not that Sacha Baron Cohen is the height of intellectual comedy, but the fact is that, besides knowing promote his film, has the ability to rip more than a few moments of laughter with The Dictator , a feat that it is quite commendable today.

The Dictator

If this is his third collaboration with Larry Charles, who already directed both Borat as Bruno, the truth is that I would say that all the successes of the film are attributable to Cohen himself. The direction of the film falls short of the same vulgarity which boasts the title character, as it does not seem to be a deliberate style choice, but the total absence of creative intent. Any film plane depends on the actor, rather than the character, but never in the service of his story. Not that the script of the film is of supreme quality, is far from being even interesting, but draws attention to all that behind.

If at first you can find a good deal of provocation, finally find a satire, not so much of the Arab countries ruled by a dictator, which he represents in the film, but to those democratic countries like the United States of America manifest themselves free ... and they are not. True, there are plot elements that are highly improved, such as the unlikely relationship with Zoey (Anna Faris) or impossible friendship with Nadal (Jason Mantzoukas) plus the ease with which resolve most conflict of the plot. It is also true that once show all gas kept awake in the trailer of the movie a few jokes are really interesting to contribute.

But nothing like checking in the final sequence of the film that the defense that makes Aladeen dictator dictatorship (theirs), fits like a glove to the systematic practice of the governments of many democracies known (ours). Particularly and what touches me, the government of Mariano Rajoy in Spain, which is poised to become a pathetic country like Aladeen leading.
