No to open-pit mining in La Rioja, Argentina. Some people will find it unusual that communities in developing countries reject megaminería projects that promise jobs and income for many people.

What happens is that it is becoming more difficult to fool with mirrors to those who know they have the true wealth of the planet freshwater.

More than 10,000 people marched on January 26 from different parts of the province of La Rioja in Argentina, to the capital of it, putting all his strength and courage to prevent it from carrying out a proposed open-pit mining in the town of Famatina.

The march was called by the Citizens Assemblies for Life, to pressure the authorities to break the agreement with the Canadian company Osisko Mining Corp., which sought to begin the exploration of the area in search of minerals like gold, for its operation.

Thanks to the committed engagement of our citizens, the project has been slowed. Gov. Luis Beder Herrera has advised people not to undertake anything without the approval of the people.

The megaminería is highly polluting , and in this area affect the quality of water in a large basin. It is becoming more difficult in democratic countries this type of venture, because, fortunately, people are more informed.
