Lugaru

Last year Indian study Wolfire Games released the code for its game platform as Open Source Lugaru yet despite being victims of piracy alebo, but encouraged by the success of Humble Indie Bundle (5 games for the price seemed to give you) and the conviction that they should make more games for Linux and Mac OS X.

Earlier this year, Apple launched its digital distribution platform for Mac OS X applications known as Mac App Store and quickly popular free and paid software. Wolfire Games was also quick to launch HD Lugaru U $ S 9.99. But so did the usual opportunists, who managed to publish in the App Store Open Source version of Lugaru charging $ 0.99 for it.

Recall that Lugaru Open Source is available under the GPLv2 license in this repository, but its visual art was not explicitly covered by it.

The most unfortunate event is not just the fact of the criminality of the action, but it has been possible to circumvent the strict controls of approval from Apple, which for example prevented Sony published in the same App Store software for reading your e- books (probably free).

The savvy users Phoronix Forums site discovered an "error" on page Rage game that at times made to hold your breath all know the history of id Software to the community of GNU / Linux and Open Source.

Before:

ouch

"Developed by id Software, id Tech 5 is an advanced open source incredible engine capable of Creating Environments."

Next:

rage

"Developed by id Software, id Tech 5 is an advanced engine capable of incredible Creating Environments."

Is that Tech 5 is the stunning 3D graphics machine that makes this game what it is, as it did before Tech 4 Doom 3, Tech 3 with Quake III, Quake II Tech 2 and Tech 1 with Doom and Doom II these last 3 and released as Open Source. But the last thing I knew about Tech 5 is that perhaps I could never be available in GNU / Linux, according to earlier comments by John Carmack.

Just the error failed? Or an involuntary expression of desire?

GNOME3

GNOME 3 "Made of Easy" is a new site that wants to demonstrate in a very attractive the benefits of the next version of one of the free desktop environments available for most popular GNU / Linux and other * nix. Some of the most important arguments in your home page for this new iteration of GNOME:

  • Simply beautiful: The new GNOME desktop brings elegance to another level. We have made a simple and easy desktop use, with new visual theme, a new font and carefully designed animations.
  • A general view in a snapshot: The Activities view allows access to all your windows and applications easily.
  • Integrated Messaging: GNOME3 allows you to continue your conversation without changing the focus of your applications with the ability to enter a direct response to the notifications of the messages.
  • Computer with no distractions: GNOME3 is designed to reduce distractions and get in control. The new notification system presents subtly and keep them until you're ready to serve them.
  • Everything in your fingertips: The new desk can be accessed quickly from the keyboard. You'll love this feature if you like things to happen quickly.
  • Redesigned System Configuration: The settings have been completely redesigned to make them easier to use than ever. There are also new features like using Flickr images as wallpapers.

Unfortunately, the site has not yet translated into other languages than English, but we are confident that this situation is reversed when the initiative gets enough exposure and support, did you perhaps?

The site points out that GNOME 3 will not be completed until next April, a month later than expected, and then expect to have ready IMAGES Live-USB type so that everyone can try it without any commitment. For those who can not wait, here are some instructions for compiling the current development version by hand.
