Beta version 12 recently released Firefox 4 could be the last before the final, now expected any day this month of March. So it is fitting to recall that Firefox 4.0 will also be the last major version to be released from the popular browser.

So explains Jay Sullivan, vice-president of Mozilla products:

"This (Firefox 4) will be the last major release that we do. (Now) we will release smaller and faster."

"What we do is put power in the hands of users faster. For example, the tag was ready to distribute video in June, and we should have distributed. (But) while we were waiting for the whole package. Why why not distribute the Video tag when it was complete? "

"We're moving at the speed of the Web now, and we were doing shots at the speed of the desktop."

This new Mozilla policy is similar to the one taken by Google for a time for up Chrome browser, which has minor updates automatically distributed to users every 4 to 6 weeks, and over every 4 to 6 months.
