The latest report on the level of competition in broadband in Spain produced by the CMT shows that Movistar has lost 50% level of market share in cities of between 50,000 and 100,000.

The report on the geographic tracking of broadband in our country, with data for June 2011, allows us to see clearly the progressive loss of customers that Movistar has been recorded over the last year, and from which the Monthly and quarterly notes were giving a good account to miss the mark psychological 50% share.

In addition to the increased penetration of broadband in Spain to the 22.9 lines per 100 inhabitants (EU27 average is 26.5), the phenomenon observed is clearer that, as the city becomes larger, a high proportion of alternative operators DSL technologies.

The CMT organized the populations of Spain into seven major groups, leaving aside the great capitals of Madrid and Barcelona.

As already mentioned, is remarkable loss Movistar customers in all groups of cities, but stresses that in the medium-sized cities (50000-100000 inhabitants), the former monopoly lost for the first time the figure of 50% share of market from 51% to 48.6%. The same happened in Madrid, down from 50.3% in mid-2010 to 48.7% in June 2011.

As cities are becoming smaller shows that Movistar clearly still retains most of the ADSL.

Together all the numbers in the twelve-month period analyzed, it appears that the net gain of broadband lines are distributed as follows: 53,856 for Telefonica, 510,705 to 102,953 alternative for cable operators.

On the other hand, it is noteworthy that despite the slow deployment of FTTH technology in June 2011 accounted for 96 621 connections with this technology, by 31 749 in 2010.

Finally, we note that in general terms without promotional prices between June 2010 and June 2011 were stable at all speeds Internet access except those of 30 Mbps or more, where as Movistar Jazztel both lowered their prices, and ADSL 6 and 10 Mbps of Movistar.
