SPDY is a network protocol developed and introduced by Google in late 2009 with the goal of improving our experience of internet browsing, printing faster in loading web pages. While SPDY is part of Google Chrome since its early versions, the public character of the protocol gives Mozilla the ability to use it without problem in your browser and will from the next version .

Firefox 11 is in Beta and already has this specification, however, we must activate it manually through 'about: config', because the default is disabled.

Not the first time that Mozilla makes an extra effort to improve the speed in loading pages through your browser. Firefox Version 5 had a similar feature, which was optimized using the HTTP protocol.

Meanwhile, Matt Cutts, one of the most important people in Google, welcomes the decision of Mozilla, expressing through Twitter account:

It's great to see that Firefox will include support for SPDY

Note that SPDY is on track to become a standard, which will surely increase its adoption. Today we find implementations of this protocol in the framework node.js the nginx web server and the Amazon Kindle Fire.
