When push comes to notifiaciones probably the first to visualize are the notifications that we have in our smartphones, and these are the best devices so far have exploited this functionality. Since a few months ago Google Chrome allows you to receive notifications of new messages in Gmail. Well, now Mozilla is working on a notification system similar to your browser , Firefox. And like all things it does Mozilla is being developed so that it can be used by any website. This notification system is very similar to that we already have in our smart phones, the user can give different websites permission to send such notifications and sites may inform the user when they are new, both in the version of Desktop Firefox and mobile versions. Mozilla developer Jeff Balogh has explained this system in his blog , both in concept and operation would have, including a code example that could be used. When the user decides to access a site to send push notifications inform the browser to the site of the URL associated with that user to have to send new messages. When the Web application wants to send a notification will make a POST request and the server that manages the notification messages sent to your browser. This Firefox will need to have a permanent connection to the server responsible for receiving notifications from the various websites that have provided access. This system has an advantage over the notifications that have some services, like the previously mentioned Gmail. Its main advantage is that it is necessary to have the website open in a tab for notifications which will undoubtedly greatly increases the chances of this set of messages to the user, even to be able to reduce the sending of messages by email if this system became popular. At the moment Mozilla continues to develop this new notification system and can not be tested by developers, but from here at once the API is available for websites. With this then we can start tinkering and actually see the capabilities of this system for now, looks great.
