VLC 2.0 comes with support (experimental) for Blu-ray

New and great in the exciting world of computer media players. And no wonder, since after several weeks of waiting, finally Videolan guys finally just launched version 2.0 of its famous VLC player . This update is one of the most important for several months, as it brings exciting new features, especially for the world of High Definition video and professional.

Thus, for example, and integration with Lion for Mac OS users, adds support for multi-core processors, for decoding by GPU or noticeable improvements in the subtitles. But of course, star in this new version is support (currently experimental) films on Blu-ray, something more interesting in the case of Max OS, which natively support this format is almost nonexistent. Unfortunately, currently only counts as BD-Lite mode, so you still can not access the navigation menu of movies, but it reproduced the same.

  • Support for ProRes mode 422/4444 and AVC / Intra
  • Support for JPEG-2000 and DNxHD/VC-3 in 10bits
  • Compatible with subtitles EBU (STL) and EIA-608
  • Support card inputs SDI and HD-SDI on Linux
  • New encoder Dirac/VC-2
