With so much new APU, Fusion, Vision, FX, and other denominations, many believed that AMD had forgotten his classics Athlon, but it is not. In complete silence the manufacturer has launched two new quad-core Athlon II based on the platform Llano, and occupy the new Socket FM1 like their counterparts in graphics chip, the APU series A.

These new processors are basically Plain Series units with the GPU turned off, probably those that leave the production line with a defect in that area, which would otherwise end up being discarded. The new CPUs are Athlon II X4 638 and Athlon II X4 641, coming to complete the catalog of these processors in AMD's new socket.

The first of two new processors, Model 641 features 4 cores at 2.8Ghz with a TDP of 100W, typical of such units. This processor will have a list price of $ 81, very attractive to any consumer who does not need integrated graphics. Moreover, the new Athlon II X4 638 has a frequency of 2.7GHz and a moderate consumption 65W TDP making it the fastest processor in its class to AMD. This may be acquired, interestingly, for the same price as the model faster. AMD is refreshing to see such shows as level of commitment to a platform that seemed ready to order online.
